Off-grid in the hinterland: cheaper than a costly grid connection?

When off-grid works out cheaper

A fully off-grid system — panels, batteries and an inverter — costs, depending on your usage, from around €8,000 for a modest home up to €20,000 or more where consumption is high and days of autonomy are needed. Set that against a connection and off-grid is often just as cheap or cheaper — and you’re rid of the electricity bill for good.
